Join us at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre on January 11th for our Member Breakfast Meeting and speakers, Jesse Helmer, former City Councillor and London Deputy Mayor, now working with Mike Moffatt at the Smart Prosperity Institute. And Hans Schreff, Manager of CDM and Director of Logistics at London Hydro. More speaker details below)

Registration and Breakfast Buffet will open at 8:00am.

Welcome and Speaker will begin at 8:30am.

Jesse Helmer

Many will know Jesse Helmer as a former city councillor and deputy mayor here in London. Jesse is now working as a Senior Research Associate at the Smart Prosperity Institute, and is also teaching part-time at Western in the local government program and at Huron University College in the governance, ethics and leadership program.

Jesse will be discussing a new report by SPI commissioned by LEDC which digs into the employment prospects for the construction industry from 2023-2031, the major employment demand on the horizon, the challenges to fill that gap, and how different levels of government can help. SPI was also recently commissioned by LDI to review the City of London's growth population projections. The report shows that the projected numbers are already being outpaced, and recommends that the City of London obtain up-to-date population forecasts and revise the London Plan to accommodate current and anticipated population growth.

Hans Schreff

With upcoming building code changes for more green standards, the city’s climate action emergency plan, the significant push for EVs, the intensification that may come with additional dwelling units, and broad interest in greater electrification, hear directly from London Hydro on how all of this will be achievable, the timelines and what the new infrastructure might look like.
