Speaker Details:
Megan Rizzo Naus, Senior Development Officer at London Health Sciences Foundation will give a brief presentation on the impact of LHSF's community events and provide details and opportunities to support this year's Country Classic Auction.
Dan Mathieson served 5 terms as Mayor of Stratford and sat on municipal council since 1995. Dan has been a member on numerous boards and committees in healthcare, municipal affairs, law enforcement, athletics, not-for-profits, universities and colleges. He is a former Chair of the Ontario Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), Chair of the Stratford Police Services Board, a former member of the Board of Directors of Festival Hydro and Rhyzome Networks. Most recently Dan was appointed to the The Provincial Land and Development Facilitator which helps resolve complex land use, growth management, and infrastructure planning issues across Ontario. Speaker Topic: As recently stated by Minister Rob Flack: "Growth no longer pays for growth, you can’t expect a new homebuyer to pay for the infrastructure costs into the future, the municipalities don’t have the money — they’ll tell you that — the province doesn’t, nor do the feds. So why don’t we consider setting up municipal service corps, public utilities." The concept of MSCs has gained support from the Province, exploring this with the region of Peel, Kingston is exploring their own, and our speaker Dan Mathieson has been working with municipalities in the County of Simcoe on what this could look like. Could this be the future of how development infrastructure is paid for in Ontario and is this something London should explore?
David Vine is the founder and principal boat builder of Stem2Stern, a community youth development program that introduces elementary and high school students to the skilled trades through hands-on boat building and woodworking. During their workshops, students collaborate to build a 12‑foot wooden rowboat, which they launch alongside funders and community partners. The program serves as a powerful STEM experience, helping youth develop essential tool skills, problem‑solving abilities, and teamwork. By getting kids off their screens and into the workshop, Stem2Stern inspires the next generation to view construction and skilled trades as rewarding, viable career paths.
